Prom decor don'ts

March 2, 2019

Prom décor don’ts are …

Don’t skimp on the décor, entertainment or professionals to assist you in accomplishing the prom you will remember for the rest of your life.  Prom is the last big event you have before graduation headed into adulthood and should blow your mind, be memorable, and be extraordinary.

Even if you choose a theme that is popular, you still need to be unique.  Hiring a professional event planner to assist you to create extraordinary is key.  This is not the place to try to do it yourself.  Amazing doesn’t come easy.

Masquerade Ball -  Everything being dark is important, then of course you need to have some glitz and glamour.  Items such as columns, chandeliers, masks, peacock feathers, beads, are standard items, but be sure to include the unexpected. Professional dancers to assist in getting the party started. A dance floor that lights up and chases while you’re on the dance floor. A rocking DJ are also necessary items.

Enchanted Garden – having trees, flowering trees, flowering bushes, a pond or fountain, benches, and lamp posts, hanging ivy, rock walls – these are all necessary items for this theme.  But again, the unexpected is what brings it to life, the entire ceiling covered in twinkling stars, butterflies, a sprite to have your picture with, garden gnomes, caterpillars, living statues; these items bring your theme alive.

Magic Moments; A night of light – an entire ceiling covered in twinkling stars, the walls covered in black draping with twinkling lights for stars behind it, adding flowering trees, and touches of a fairy god mother to make it come alive.  No literally, a fairy god mother to have your picture taken with.  A magician to blow your mind with magic as they walk around, having a pond with magic leaping fish and a talking frog.  The Cinderella carriage and of course live statues.

Paris - the walls covered in black draping with twinkling lights for stars behind it. Of course you need the Eiffel Tower, you need to have a Paris café, living statutes, a mime, a caricaturist to draw you, you need to have tall feather trees, crystal chandeliers, feather boa lights, just to get started….

Under the Sea – you need sharks, dolphins, whales, fish, obviously everything covered in water draping, specialty lighting to make you feel like you’re under water.  You need marine plants, a coral reef, and a sunken ship.   But to really make your theme come alive, you also need to have a mermaid, merman, and an octopus.

To make your prom one you and your class mates will remember for the rest of your life, call Jennifer Lane Events to assist you in planning and Event Décor Divas to create your custom décor.
